Over the next few days the anticapition about the exam results will start to mount. The sence of panic which is a sudden sensation of fear, which can be so strong it may dominate or prevent reason or logical thinking. This sence of panic can be replaced by overwhelming feelings of anxiety and frantic feeling’s of agitation, restlessness, frustration. These feelings can result in the animalistic fight-or-flight reaction. The fight-or-flight response was first described in the 1920s by American physiologist Walter Cannon. Cannon realized that a chain of rapidly occurring reactions inside the body help mobilize the body’s resources to deal with threatening circumstances.

You may not be aware of how your body is feeling, or you may become aware of a churning sensation in your stomach. Your sleep pattern may be effected, and you might be restless at night or not sleep at all, and you may also notice a change in your appetite. You may need to talk to someone about how you are feeling, a family memeber, or friend, or you may wish to talk to someone outside of your circle. There are loads of supports out there. These feelings of stress are normal, it is when we can not control our stress levels then we need to visit the doctor.

Before the results it is important to eat well, rest as best you can, get some  exercise, and try and stay positive. I know you have heard it all before but believe me it is true.

The day of the results there will be a lot of emotional energy. People will be happy I am hoping you will be one of them. Some will be sad as they may not have gotten the results they wanted. Some will be silent as they may need space to think about their results which could be a great result. Everyone takes that envelope and reacts differentlty.

After the results it is important to follow the ABC

A Ability to deal with the results – no matter what they are. Slow down, keep a cool head, and dont panic.

B The beliefs you have about these results may not be the reality. You need to wait maybe on college places, first rounds, second round etc

C The consquence of the results may not be as you thought, consider other options.

D  Discuss these results with friends, family, trachers- gives you time to cosider other optins.

Take time to think of your options, talk to as many people as you can. Explore other possibilities, keep positive, keep in touch with your friends.

This feeling of panic will pass and things will settle back to a new normal. It is important for you to rest as much as possible, sleep the best you can, and go for a walk to give yourself time to think. Taking care of yourself is important. Wishing you the results you are hoping for. The results are not the most impoetant thing in the world. You Are. Remember that as you move forward.
